I have thick colored hair that is dry, frizzy and wavy. It looks like a mess when not dried correctly so I try to wash my hair at night when I feel I have more time to fix it up. Sometimes when I'm too tired to deal with it, I don't clean my hair and this ends up being a two or three day mess of itchy, greasy head.
Now, to avoid feeling and looking like a hobo, I researched on what I can do to have a clean looking mop of head without actually having to do it daily. I stumbled upon the "No pooing" solution. Don't let the name fool you, although as far name goes, it is as gross as it gets. It simply means no shampooing and just cleaning your hair with water. Just water! That shouldn't be a revolutionary idea since water is the universal solvent. But for hair, it sounds like it is!
Is water really enough? Apparently, for some it is. Sure you will go for a few days with greasy hair because your scalp is still adjusting but people who are successful with it say it does work. After a month, you should have clean and no grease hair.
I am lazy when it comes to hair but that is just too much. Having wet hair sucks but wet and greasy? No thanks. So I looked for another alternative and found that others use a solution with baking soda and water then afterwards organic apple cider vinegar and water. It sounded weird and scary. It seems like a recipe for salad dressing. Or as per my sister, "Aren't those the things we use to clean the bathroom tiles?"
Baking soda is supposed to remove all the dirt and grease gently without stripping hair of its moisture. The ACV and water solution will act as a conditioner and make the hair soft and shiny afterwards.
After three days of not washing hair (as usual), I thought what the heck and tried it out. If I don't like it, then I can just go back to my usual hobo ways. I let it sit for a couple or so minutes and made sure to massage it all over my scalp. The ACV mix went on the middle of my hair to the roots for a couple minutes. The vinegar smell turned me off but most said that it will disappear after the hair dries. In my experience, it disappears if you wash your hair thoroughly.
So I fan-dried my hair afterwards and asked my sisters how it looked. They did say it looked shiny. It didn't feel exceptionally soft but my hair felt light. Two days have passed since I washed my hair and it still feels light and clean. No grease in sight. I may have used too much baking soda cause it feels a bit dry. I'll try using less next time and see how that goes.
What I used:
1 tbsp baking soda and 8 oz water
1 tbsp organic AVC and 8 oz water
